While players get some down time away from the felt, Card Player caught up with some notable pros from all over the world to see how their year was and what they expect from the next.

In this Christmas special Fatima Moreira de Melo talks about her best memory, what she learned throughout the year, and who impressed her the most. Also, here’s a hint for anyone planning a Christmas present for the Dutch pro – money will do nicely.

Rebecca McAdam: How was your year overall?

Fatima Moreira de Melo: My 2011 was good, still very happy to be playing poker and traveling.

RM: Where was the best place you’ve been in 2011?

FM: There’s no best place. I just love the traveling and every place has its unique selling points.

RM: What would you say you are most proud of?

FM: I’m most proud of the fact that I’m working out regularly again, because I was becoming quite lazy, physically.

RM: What is your best memory of the year?

FM: My best memory was when Raemon, my boyfriend made it to the last 24 of EPT Madrid, I was so proud! I guess this is an answer to the other question as well!

RM: Did you learn anything this year either about your game or yourself in general?

FM: I’ve learned that there a no shortcuts in life… I’m very impatient and I always want to do things the quickest and easiest way, but I now realize that it’s not always the best way.

RM: Who most impressed you in 2011 in poker?

FM: I was really impressed with Elky this year, he won a couple live tourneys and made it to some final tables in the week after losing the kickboxing bet against Lex Veldhuis.

RM: What is your best way to spend Christmas?

FM: The ideal way to spend Christmas would be in a sunny place with both mine and my boyfriend’s family and some of my dearest friends.

RM: What is the ideal gift for you?

FM: The ideal present to give me is money, so I can choose my own stuff!

RM: Have you any plans for New Year’s eve?

FM: I don’t know what I’m doing, probably visiting friends and family and then watch a series on New Year’s day!

RM: What is on the agenda for the New Year and what are your hopes?

FM: The plan is to play a lot of poker, definitely all the EPT’s and make the best of it! I hope I can do well in some of the EPT’s!
