Eli Manning and Coach Tom CoughlinThe numbers are now in. This year, a total of $93,899,840 was wagered on the Super Bowl at Nevada’s 184 registered sports books, resulting in a modest win of $5,064,470.

The 5.4 percent profit was reported by the Nevada Gaming Control Board late Monday afternoon, making this year’s match between the New York Giants and the New England Patriots, the 16th profitable year in the last 17 for the sports books.

The only loss registered in the last 17 years occurred in 2008. Nevada sports books lost $2,573,103 when the heavily favored undefeated Patriots lost to the Giants in Super Bowl XLII.

This time around, odds makers adjusted the line far enough to encourage more action on New England, which balanced out the bets just enough to eek out a profit.

The most profitable game for Nevada’s sports books came in 2005 during Super Bowl XXXIX, when they earned $15,430,138 after the Patriots defeated the Philadelphia Eagles.

Last Sunday, the Giants beat the Patriots 21-17.
