It’s been a long time coming but today finally sees day 1 of the Super Poker Event of Europe 2012 take place at Dublin’s Citywest Events Centre in Saggart.

The €300 + €40 buy-in main event was intended to be Europe’s largest ever poker tournament with an anticipated 4,000 poker players and an estimated prize pool of €1.2 million. However with numbers coming out around the 1,000+ mark, the prize pool looks more likely to be around €300,000.

Players from all over Europe have flown in for this well-structured event and play begins today at 12 with 21 levels to follow. Players sit down to 15,000 in chips with 30-minute levels and a break after every 4 with an hour dinner break. The players who return for 12 p.m. on day 2 will be in the money, blinds will increase to 45 minutes, and action will play down to a conclusion.

There is a full schedule of side events also taking place across the weekend.
