Registration is now closed on day 2 of the 2012 World Poker Tour L.A. Poker Classic $10,000 main event.
Once again the tournament proved to be one of the WPT’s best performers, drawing a total of 549 entrants and building a prize pool of nearly $5.3 million. This is the largest event of the WPT’s 10th season up to this point. September’s Borgata Poker Open garnered a $4.2 million prize pool.
The 2012 LAPC main event champion is set to earn $1,370,240, in addition to a seat in the $25,500 WPT Championship at Bellagio in May.
At the end of day 1 there were plenty of big names who had built sizable stacks, including Chance Kornuth (third in chips with 131,275), 2008 LAPC champ Phil Ivey (116,300) and current Player of the Year third-place resident Jonathan Duhamel (98,950).
Last year’s running drew 681 players, creating a $6.5 million prize pool. The last man standing was Gregory Brooks, who earned $1,654,120 and 2,400 Player of the Year points for the win.
