The winner of the second annual World Series of Poker Africa $3,300 main event is Joe-Boy Rahme. The restaurateur-turned-poker pro topped a field of 218 after three action-fueled days at Johannesburg’s Emerald Resort and Casino for the lion’s share of the $634,380 prize pool.
The very popular South African had to battle a tough final table including two winners from earlier events; Gregory Ronaldson from event no. 1 and Jason Straus from event no. 2.
His final opponent was self-employed, father of two Ivan Pakkiri. The heads up was short-lived and Pakkiri was put out when his Q-10 could not better Rahme’s J-J. Rahme received $158,595 (R1,197,100) while Pakkiri was consoled by $98,012.
After his win, Rahme said, “This feels great; I’ve been working toward a WSOP championship for 25 years. This is fabulous.”
