In this new Card Player feature we are looking to provide our readers with a guide to some of the biggest poker events taking place in their area for the upcoming week. CALIFORNIA
- The 2012 Bay 101 Shooting Star (Mar 05, ‘12 – Mar 09, ’12) The Bay 101 in San Jose kicks off it’s ever popular Shooting Star event this week, highlighted by the somewhat unique $10,000 World Poker Tour Shooting Star main event which begins on March 5th. In addition to $5,00 bounties on famous players, deemed “Shooting Stars,” the event also pays out $10,000 bonuses to the chipleaders at the end of each of the two starting days. Also unique to this event on the WPT is the fact that play begins with one-hour levels, then increases to 90-minute levels deeper in the tournament. When only 36 players remain, play switches from the standard nine-handed to six-handed, and remains that way for the duration of the event.
- The 2012 Winnin’ o’ the Green (Mar 02, ‘12 – Apr 05, ’12) The Bicycle Casino in Bell Gardens is into the second week of its Winnin’ o’ the Green series, with a total 22 events set to play out during the month of March. This week will feature a number of $150 buy-in events, including a no-limit hold’em deepstack that begins on the 5th and a limit Omaha eight-or-better event that starts on the 7th.
- The 2012 Coachella Valley Poker Championship (Mar 09, ‘12 – Mar 11, ’12) Spotlight 29 Casino in Coachella is hosting a $560 buy-in no-limit hold’em event that begins on March 9th. The event will run for three days and feature a $100,000 prizepool guarantee.
NEVADA
- The 2012 Wynn Classic (Feb 22, ‘12 – Mar 15, ’12) — The 16-event 2012 Wynn Poker Classic is now entering its third week, and is set to run a number of big events in the coming days, including a $550 H.O.R.S.E. event that starts on March 5th, a $2,090 no-limit hold’em event that kicks off on the 10th and the marquee $5,170 no-limit hold’em main event that begins on the 12th.
- The 2012 World Poker Challenge (Mar 01, ‘12 – Mar 11, ’12) — The Grand Sierra Casino and Resort in Reno is entering the final week of its 32-event series, with notable events in the final stretch including a $550 no-limit hold’em event that commences on March 8th and the $1,080 no-limit hold’em main event which gets underway on the 10th.
FLORIDA
- The 2012 Battles at the Beach (Mar 01, ‘12 – Mar 26, ’12) — The Isle Casino in Pompano Beach has scheduled 16 events spanning much of March, and the series has a number of interesting events set for this week including a $550 no-limit hold’em event with a unique three-blind format that starts on March 8th, and a $1,600 no-limit hold’em event with $500 bounties.
NORTHEAST
- The 2012 Parx Open Winter Showdown (Feb 27, ‘12 – Mar 06, ’12) — The Parx Casino in Bensalem is approaching the end of its 13-event Parx Open Winter Showdown series. Of the remaining events, the highlight is the $500 no-limit hold’em main event that begins on March 6th, crowning its champion on the following day.
- The 2012 WSOP Circuit Caesars Atlantic City (Mar 01, ‘12 – Mar 12, ’12) — The WSOP Circuit Caesars Atlantic City is entering the second week of its 12-event series, with a number of key events set for the coming days including a $1,080 no-limit hold’em event that starts on March 9th, and the $1,600 WSOP Circuit main event that begins on the 10th.
