The $3,125 Chicago Poker Classic main event, held at the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, IN, ran for four days before a champion was eventually crowned. The last man standing was Bloomingdale, IL resident Anthony Marsico, who earned $265,825 and 900 Card Player Player of the Year points for emerging victorious. As a result, Marsico has moved into a three-way tie for 32nd place in the overall standings with Oleksii Kovalchuk and Eui Woong Kim.
“This feels good, I’m a little bit tired, but it feels good,” Marsico said after the four-day marathon poker tournament.
Marsico is a 26-year-old professional who typically plays pot-limit Omaha cash games, but demonstrated his tournament prowess by holding the lead in the event at the end of day 2 and 3, and then sealing the deal with the win. Marsico also managed to avoid being all-in for his tournament life until play became three-handed.
“I was pretty confident,” Marsico said. “I told someone before today that if I didn’t get to the top three I’d be pretty disappointed.”
