The Card Player Player of the Year race sponsored by Lock Poker has moved into its third month, and as winter comes to a close the tournament action is heating up along with the weather. This past week saw a number of events around the world award some major prizes and POY points. Here are the biggest results of the past week:
WPT National Series Denmark
The World Poker Tour National Series Denmark’s €1,650 main event attracted a 289-player field. In the end Steve O’Dwyer emerged as the champion, earning the title, the first prize of 893,960 DKK (€120,247), and 456 POY points. O’Dwyer had made the final table of the European Poker Tour Copenhagen main event just a week prior, finishing seventh. As a result of his Danish dominance, O’Dwyer has moved into 63rd place in the overall standings.
IPT Nova Gorica
The Italian Poker Tour Nova Gorica main event drew 285 players to the Perla Casino in western Slovenia, building a €554,840 prize pool. In the end, Anton Karasinsky emerged victorious, earning the title, the €140,000 first place prize and 684 POY points. The Slovakian moved into a tie for 61st place in the overall standings on the merits of his win.
Chicago Poker Classic
The $3,125 Chicago Poker Classic main event attracted 360 entrants to the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, IN, building a $1,107,600 prize pool. The event ran for four days before a champion was crowned. The last man standing was Anthony Marsico, who earned $265,825 and 900 POY points for emerging victorious. As a result, Marsico has moved into a three-way tie for 32nd place in the overall standings with Oleksii Kovalchuk and Eui Woong Kim.
The 26-year-old Bloomingdale, IL resident is a professional who typically plays pot-limit Omaha cash games, but demonstrated his tournament prowess by holding the lead of this event at the end of day 2 and 3, and then sealing the deal with the win. Marsico also managed to avoid being all-in for his tournament life until play became three-handed.
