The next stop of season 8 on the European Poker Tour is Madrid. The Tour visited the Casino Gran Madrid last year in May for the Grand Final of season 7, and this year returns as a regular stop.
The Spanish capital will play host to EPT Madrid until Mar. 17, by which time all champions will have been decided. The centrepiece of this stop is the five-day €5,000 + €300 buy-in ($6,557 + $393 buy-in) main event which kicks off today at 12 p.m..
It’s probably unfair to compare it to the Madrid stop on the Tour last year as that was the Grand Final and usually attracts quite a big field. However the main event buy-in was €10,600 ($13,902), double that of the regular stop this year, so perhaps those who missed out on Madrid previously will give it a shot this time around.
Last year, the stop attracted 686 players, which created a total prize pool of €6,860,000 ($8,997,224). Ivan Freitez took home €1.5 million after beating a final table that included a whopping eight different nationalities.
The EPT stopped at Casino Gran Madrid on Mar. 11 for a super satellite and a €300 + €30 no-limit hold’em turbo but from today and running alongside the main event are bundles of other side events including a two-day, €1,000 + €100 pot-limit Omaha, eight max, single rebuy event, a one-day, €300 + €30 Women’s Event, and a two-day, eight max, €10,000 + €300 no-limit hold’em, single reload event.
