Fitzgeralds On Fremont StreetThe downtown Las Vegas remodel continues as Fitzgeralds Casino and Hotel announced Tuesday plans for a dramatic renovation and name change to be completed later this fall. The Fremont Street property will officially become the D Las Vegas Casino Hotel and will feature two gaming floors, two new bars and 638 remodeled hotel suites.

The current plans include a modernized casino area on the first floor complete with dancing dealers for table and pit games. The second floor will have another casino area with retro and vintage coin operated slot machines.

“It’s absolutely terrific to be part of all the changes happening in downtown Las Vegas this year,” said the Fitzgeralds owner, Derek Stevens. “The D will elevate the energy of Fremont Street and immerse our guests in a fun and friendly party atmosphere. When guests come to the D, we want them to feel like they own the place.”

The Stevens brothers, who at one point owned minor league baseball’s Las Vegas 51s, also control a 50 percent stake in the downtown Golden Gate Casino and Hotel as part of their development and management group Desert Rock Enterprises.

Downtown Las Vegas has seen a resurgence in the last four years thanks to a $5.5 million streetscape improvement funded by Fremont Street casino owners and the Las Vegas Redevelopment Agency. Additionally, Fremont properties such as Binion’s and the Golden Nugget have undergone recent renovations, drawing more tourists to the once decaying area.

Fitzgeralds Casino last underwent renovations in 1979. The property closed its poker room in January of this year, but there has been no word on whether a new room will be a part of the D’s plans.
