Las Vegas resident Joe Kuether has emerged victorious in the 2012 World Series of Poker Circuit Rincon $1,600 no-limit hold’em main even, topping a field of 332 entrants to earn his first WSOP Circuit gold ring, the $111,104 first-place prize and 480 Card Player Player of the Year points, bringing his total points for the year to 1,020 and moving him into 33rd place in the overall standings. Kuether has made an impressive five final tables this year, with three titles already in 2012.
The top 36 finishers made the money, with a total prize pool of $483,060 to battle it out for. When the bubble burst, there were still a number of notable names left in the hunt, including four-time WSOP Circuit gold ring winner Alexandru Masek, David Levi, and Brandon Cantu, a two-time WSOP bracelet winner who had won the tournament just prior to the main event. All of these players fell short of the final table, with Cantu finishing in 11th place for $8,449.
When the final nine where set, there was one name that stood out from the rest: Freddy Deeb. Deeb entered the final table as the chip leader, and undeniably the most seasoned player, with two WSOP bracelets and a gold ring that he earned for winning the inaugural WSOP Circuit event at The Bicycle Casino this January.
Deeb took a number of hits, surviving to four-handed play but eventually hitting the rail in fourth place when his AJ failed to overcome Joe Kuether’s AK. For his efforts Deeb earned $37,167 in prize money, bringing his lifetime tournament earnings to roughly $7.85 million. Deeb was also awarded 240 POY points, catapulting him into 30th place in the overall standings.
By the time heads-up play began, Chris Cronin enjoyed a slight chip advantage over Kuether. The two passed the lead back and forth, before Kuether won a number of pots to extend a sizable lead before the final hand came up. Kuether min-raised from the button and Cronin made the call. The flop brought the K42 and both players checked. The 7 fell on the turn and Cronin once again checked, only to have Kuether bet 125,000. Cronin check-raised to 300,000. Kuether then three-bet all-in, having Cronin covered. Cronin made the call and turned over K9 for top pair. Kuether rolled over his hole cards, revealing the AA. Kuether was in great shape; one card away from the title and all that came with it. The final card of the event was the A, and with that Kuether secured his victory.
