Sportingbet Plc, owner of Paradise Poker, has said it would appeal an injunction from Spanish courts ordering it to take down its Spanish-facing websites Miapuesta.com and Miapuesta.es.

The injunction came into force yesterday and favours Spanish casino group Codere which sought the ruling on the basis of unfair competition.

However Sportingbet disputes this saying, “"Sportingbet firmly believes that Codere’s injunction application was based on erroneous information presented to the court and is a blatant attempt to disrupt the market in the run up to the issue of licences.”

“Sportingbet is filing an appeal against Codere’s claim having received advice that there is no legal basis for the action.”

Elsewhere Sportingbet made a final payment of US$6 million to the U.S. Department of Justice in relation to the 2010 settlement over illegal gambling where the company agreed to pay US$33 million in total to the DoJ as part of a non-prosecution agreement.
