Jannick Wrang has won the PokerStars European Poker Tour Campione main event, earning his first EPT title, the €640,000 first-place prize and 1,680 Card Player Player of the Year points. As a result of this, his first POY qualified score of the year, Wrang will move into 11th place in the overall standings.
Wrang is the third consecutive winner on the EPT from Denmark, following Mickey Petersen’s win Copenhagen in February and Frederick Jensen’s run to the title in Madrid just weeks ago. Wrang has been playing EPT events since the tour’s third Season, but most of his tournament success has come online. Known as “EDWARDHOPPER,” the 31-year-old pot-limit Omaha tournament specialist has won nearly $1,000,000 on PokerStars.
The journey to the title was not easy, as Wrang had to outlast a 570-player field, and contend with some tournament heavyweights down the stretch. The runner-up in the event was none other than renowned heads-up specialist Olivier Busquet, who earned €430,000 and 1,400 POY points. As a result of this massive score and two smaller final table finishes, Busquet has moved into 13th place in the overall standings with 1,504 points.
There were a number of other notable players who had deep runs as well, including third-place finisher Fabrice Soulier, who was awarded €240,000 and 1,120. Soulier already had one title under his belt this year, from a $2,080 L.A. Poker Classic prelim, and as a result of these two results has moved into 20th place on the POY leaderboard. Falling just short of the final table was 2010 EPT London champion David Vamplew, who earned €41,000 for his tenth-place finish.
