Paddy Power Poker Irish Open Main Event -- Day 1Samuel Chartier Leads Pro-Heavy Irish Poker Open Field At End Of Day 1 |
|
Day 1 of the PaddyPowerPoker.com Irish Open main event saw one of the most impressive fields in recent years with big names taking part from all over the globe in the world’s second oldest no-limit hold’em tournament.
With 502 players, the quality was startling as five former World Series of Poker champions; Phil Hellmuth, Dan Harrington, Carlos Mortensen, Noel Furlong, and Jonathan Duhamel, took to the felt alongside a mix of up-and-coming names and well-loved poker stars such as Daniel Negreanu, Jake Cody, Victor Ramdin, Dave “Devilfish” Ulliot, Michael Tureniec, Teddy Sherringham, Freddy Deeb, Roberto Romanello, and Eoghan O’Dea.
Unfortunately, defending champion Niall Smyth and last year’s runner-up Surinder Sunar couldn’t make it past the first day this time around, nor could Harrington, Tureniec, or Duhamel. However with such a pro-laden field, plenty of well-known names remain heading into day 2.
The top 10 in chips heading into the second day of play are:
Samuel Chartier 136,800
David Dean 125,000
Kevin Vandersmissen 110,825
John Henneberry 104,025
Eugene Hanratty 100,075
Arnaud Mattern 97,375
David Gregory 97,025
Andrew Hulme 93,300
Niall Cosgrove 92,800
Mark Shepherd 88,125
The 277 players who survived day 1 will be led by Samuel Chartier and his 136,800 chip stack as they make their way towards the €1,606,400 prize pool. The winner will go home with €420,000 to his/her name but there’s still a long way to go as of yet.
Day 2 kicks off at 12 p.m. (local time) and you can catch all the action via the live stream right here at CardPlayer.com. Alternatively check out the Paddy Power Poker blog or get up to date with our daily recaps.
