PokerStars Mum on Rumors of Rafael Nadal SigningNo Annoucement from Either Camp |
|
On Friday, rumors began circulating on social media that online giant PokerStars had inked a deal with Spanish tennis star Rafael Nadal. The site’s head of corporate communications, Eric Hollreiser, declined to address the rumors and told Card Player that PokerStars has “nothing of the sort to announce.”
There has been no announcement from Nadal’s camp, either. The 25-year-old is currently gearing up for a deep run in the French Open.
Nadal — ranked second in the world — has won 10 Grand Slam titles in his career and earned more than $48 million in prize money.
PokerStars has a history of business relationships with professional tennis players. The site sponsors Boris Becker, winner of six Grand Slams before retiring in 1999. Active professional Gaël Monfils once had a deal with the company.
Online gaming has new life in Spain, after the country recently made plans to regulate the industry. A handful of companies have agreed to pay back taxes in anticipation of licensing.
