Big Winners And Losers Hit Twitter; Players Blow Off Steam

This week was not your average week in the world of poker. It was one of those exceptional snapshots in time where what happens on the felt peaks the entire community’s interest across the world; old and young. This was reflected on what appears to have become the tournament poker player’s social media outlet of choice these days, Twitter.

The poker stars and planets seemed to align just right when Phil Ivey chased a bracelet across from Phil Hellmuth’s quest for gold. It was not to be for Ivey this time, although he continued onwards, ever nearing another World Series of Poker bracelet. On Jun. 14 Phil Galfond tweeted, “My opinion, as someone who’s played with most: #2-10 best in the world are close and v debatable. It’s bizarre how clear a #1 @philivey is.”

In the other corner Hellmuth was chasing down his 12th bracelet with more success. On Jun. 11 the Poker Brat wrote, “Hello #12!!” And followed this up with, “I Won my 12th WSOP Bracelet in the Razz (Seven Card Stud Low): finally! Feels amazing, but hoping for more…My son handed me the bracelet!”

Aside from this, there have been plenty of celebratory tweets, hand discussions, event details, and sleep-deprived, fast-food driven comments floating around Tweetspace. One topic gaining attention seems to be concerning closed events such as the ladies event and the seniors event. The WSOP yesterday wrote, “Today’s 4,128 entrants in the $1,000 Seniors Event is the largest single starting day field size ever!”

Maria Mayrinck wrote, “So awesome the seniors having an event for them. Just them. ladies deserve the same. No guys in the ladies event this year plz!” She later said, “If you are a LADY you play the LADIES EVENT, if you are a MAN you do NOT play the LADIES event. Why are some guys confused about this? #GTFO” Matt Glantz was of the same opinion, he wrote, “If u are planning on registering 4 the seniors or ladies event & are not eligible plz reconsider b4 embarrassing yourself as well as poker”

While Mike McDonald lightheartedly tweeted, “If not for online poker, I imagine the Rio would look like this way every day during the WSOP. #SeniorsEvent”

Elsewhere at Twitter, steam is being let off by many. For example William Reynolds wrote, “@AnnieDuke biggest score in poker came from @WSOP freeroll-Now her biggest epicfail is not finding the money for a freeroll she guaranteed.” Nevermind the fallout from Sam Trickett’s angry tweet concerning an alleged robbery, and the chaos that has ensued following the introduction of Andrew Feldman to the matter.

All this only in week 2 of the 2012 World Series of Poker. Check back on a weekly basis to see what’s going on in the poker world via the wonderful world of Twitter. During the Series in particular, the Tweets of The Week will be focusing on all players from across the globe, and not just the Euros, but always with an eye out for what’s going on to those who have made the journey from Europe to the crazy temporary world within the Rio All Suites Hotel and Resort in Las Vegas.
