Allyn Jaffrey ShulmanThe $1,000 buy-in seniors event at the 2012 World Series of Poker attracted a massive field of 4,128, which is the most entrants ever to play on a single starting day. As a result, one of the remaining 33 after Saturday’s long grind will walk away with $603,713.

Still in contention are Hoyt Corkins (541,000), Dennis Phillips (576,000) and Card Player’s own Allyn Jaffrey Shulman (646,000). All three are inside the top 10. The chip average is about 375,000.

Action will resume Sunday with blinds at 6,000-12,000 and a 2,000 ante.

If Allyn makes the final table, she will do so not long after both Barry and Jeff made final tables on the same day.

Phillips is no stranger to making deep runs in huge fields. He made the main event final table in 2008 and then cracked the top 50 the next year.

“There’s none of the show boating, bad mouthing back and forth,” Phillips said of the seniors event. “These guys win gracefully and lose gracefully. They just have fun and are here to enjoy the game. I have a blast playing these senior events.”

With 1.325 million, Kevin DeTienne sits atop the chip counts. He has nearly double the second largest stack in the room.
