Season XI of the World Poker Tour (WPT) gets underway from Aug. 4 when the WPT Merit Cyprus Classic $4,000 + $400 buy-in main event kicks off at the Merit Crystal Cove Casino and Resort.

The $1 million guaranteed main event will run for six days with the final table streamed live on Aug. 9 at 1 p.m. (local time).

The Classic, presented by PartyPoker.com, has a large array of side events including a $2,500 + $200 no-limit hold’em tournament with $400,000 guaranteed, a $200,000 guaranteed, $2,000 + $200 Merit Special event, and a $300 + $40 buy-in, $75,000 guaranteed, no-limit hold’em event. Plus there will be a large selection of cash games of various formats and limits, and satellites into the main event, all kicking off on Aug. 1.

To top all of this off there will be inclusive food and drink provided throughout the event.

The nearby 18-hole Korineum Golf Course will be a big attraction for those attending the Classic, along with the many other surrounding attractions such as beaches and an active nightlife. Tournament Director Matt Savage will be on the green on Aug. 3 and those who will be around and interested in challenging him to a hole or two can do so. Players wishing to participate in Matt Savage’s golf challenge need to contact the WPT as space is limited.

The event comes not long after the parliament in Cyprus banned online casinos and exchange betting, which meant no more online poker for Cypriots.
