Credit: PokerStarsRui Chen has won the 2012 Macau Poker Cup main event, topping a field of 270, battling the final table for 12 hours, and walking away from The Grand Waldo Entertainment Complex with HK$1,108,500 (€109,014 or US$142,995).

The guarantee was exceeded in the HK$20,000 buy-in main event with a prize pool of HK$4,818,960 (€473,938) on the line.

The two fighting it out for the highest rungs of the pay ladder were Chen and Yosuke Sekiya. Chen began the heads up in the lead but Sekiya rivered a nine for a pair to beat Chen’s pocket eights and put him back in contention. He then got all in again holding 10-8 to Chen’s K-10 and hit an 8 to drag out the ultimate day even further.

The final hand eventually came with Sekiya’s KSpade Suit JClub Suit pipped to the post by Chen’s KClub Suit QClub Suit on a blank board. Chen received HK$1,108,500 for first, while Sekiya had to be satisfied with HK$759,000 (€74,646).

Chen said, “I was confident and always thought I would win.”
