PaddyPowerPoker.com today announced an added highlight to its 2012 Irish Winter Festival (IWF), which will run from Oct. 26-29 in Dublin’s Burlington Hotel.
Players will be pairing up into teams for a unique, €50 + €5 buy-in (per person) doubles no-limit hold’em event on Sunday, Oct. 28 at 6.30 p.m. (local time) and some duos have already been confirmed.
Olympic boxing heroes Paddy Barnes and Michael Conlon will go into battle together, as will Irish poker champ Padraig Parkinson and rugby legend Reggie Corrigan, plus poker writers Jen Mason and Rebecca McAdam.
Anyone who eliminates Barnes or Conlon will win free entry into the €100 + €15 IWF no-limit hold’em side event.
Players will need to act fast in this double chance event with a 20-minute clock and a starting stack of 5,000. Player one begins as normal and is then replaced by player two for level 2 with 5,000 plus whatever chips the first player has left at the end of level 1.
Spokesperson for the site, Paddy Power, said, “We’re privileged to have two bona fide Olympic heroes swap their boxing gloves for poker hands at the Irish Winter Festival.
“Paddy Barnes and Michael Conlon both won bronze medals in London as a result of focus, determination and no small amount of skill, traits which we expect will serve them well at the poker table. We look forward to see players try to trash talk these guys!”
The IWF €1,000 + €125 buy-in main event runs for three days starting Oct. 27. This Sunday, Oct. 14, sees a great opportunity to try and qualify for the popular Irish poker event with the IWF Mega Satellite. The €180 + €12 buy in no-limit hold’em event kicks off at 8 p.m. at PaddyPowerPoker.com and guarantees 20 IWF packages worth €1,800 each for the main event.
