Teddy Mitchell, accused of running an illegal gambling ring in Oklahoma, will get back campaign contributions that he made to a local county sheriff, The Oklahoman reported.

Sheriff John Whetsel has written a $2,690 check — money donated between 2009 and 2010.

Last month, an indictment was unsealed alleging that a handful of individuals engaged in a multimillion-dollar operation that included running underground poker games with a rake.

Mitchell is the husband of the late Julie Mitchell, who was found beaten to death in the couple’s Oklahoma City home about two years ago.

The murder case remains unsolved, and no one has been charged in that crime. According to a local TV station, the gambling business came to light via the homicide investigation.

Sheriff Whetsel told The Oklahoman that he didn’t know Mitchell personally.
