Card Player columnist Bob Ciaffone’s latest book No-Limit Hold’em Poker: Bet Big – Win Big is the culmination of years of work he has put into poker strategy and theory.

The book, made up of updated articles Ciaffone has written for Card Player Magazine, as well as material taught to his students and discussion questions brought up among his circle of poker savants, is a well-structured 63 chapters that allows the reader to weave seamlessly between fundamental concepts and more granular, situational play.

The book’s subtitle, Bet Big – Win Big, sums up Ciaffone’s preferred playing style for his students. While all playing styles are covered, it is clear that Ciaffone has provided beginning to novice players the quickest and easiest avenue to success. As he puts it, playing “a highly aggressive and risky style, you have to be an excellent reader of opponents and also will need to handle large fluctuations in your results.”

The author begins the book with chapters on general concepts before moving into the specifics of bet sizing and betting decisions. He then breaks down the majority of potential starting hands before focusing on position and psychology.

Perhaps the best endorsement for the book comes from 1995 World Series of Poker champion Dan Harrington, himself, the author of one of the most successful poker strategy book series ever written, Harrington On Hold’em.

“Those of us who teach the game give players a good foundation to build on for both cash games and tournament play,” said Harrington in the book’s foreword. “I feel this book will be of great help to those players who are good students of the game and willing to work hard.”

Much like Harrington, Ciaffone finishes off his book with some helpful examples, breaking down 140 hands to apply the knowledge gained in the book to real-world situations. He then moves into poker discussions featuring conversations had between himself and both amateur and professional players.

No-Limit Hold’em Poker: Bet Big – Win Big retails for $25 and is available at Amazon, Professional Poker and the Gambler’s Book Club. If you order directly from Ciaffone at his website, he will personally autograph your copy. Shipping is free to all Card Player readers.

Ciaffone is also the author of Middle Limit Hold’em Poker, Pot-Limit & No-Limit Poker, Improve Your Poker and Omaha Poker. The poker coach finished third in the 1987 WSOP main event eventually won by Johnny Chan. He has been a regular columnist in Card Player Magazine since 1991.
