Holyoke Mayor Nixes Casino Plans For City
Holyoke Mayor Alex Morse was elected in part because of his anti-casino platform, but the 23-year-old stunned his supporters last month when he announced that he was negotiating a deal to bring a casino to his western Massachusetts town. This week, he once again flip-flopped, recognizing the community did not want anything to do with a casino property.
Alabama’s VictoryLand Casino Aims To Open By Christmas
After being acquitted on federal bribery charges, VictoryLand casino owner Milton McGregor has vowed to get his Alabama casino open by the new year, if not Christmas. The property, located 15 miles west of Montgomery, still needs to hire a couple hundred employees for the opening.
Bar Set High For Kenosha, Wisconsin Casino
Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker says that a potential casino in Kenosha for the Menominee tribe will have to pass an extremely difficult set of requirements in order to be approved. The proposal must be approved by the Department of the Interior and have the support of the local community before it gets to Walker’s desk.
Atlantic City’s Revel Casino Eyes New Loans
Revel, Atlantic City’s new casino that opened in April, is looking for yet another bailout. The casino’s operators are seeking a loan package worth $150 million in cash that will be applied towards operation costs and investments. Since opening, the casino has ranked eighth of 12 in the city.
Philly Casino Applicants Face Background Scrutiny
After reviewing the six applications for Philadelphia’s second casino license, the state gaming board has identified more than 50 main players associated with the project, all of whom need background checks. The extensive process could take months, depending on the applicant.
