The Wynn Las Vegas hosted its much-anticipated promotional Freeroll Poker Tournament on Thursday, Oct. 5, with 430 qualifying participants competing for a $100,000 prizepool.
Wynn Players Club members were the first to receive Freeroll Poker Tournament promotional invitations in the mail, while visual media and daily announcements reminded poker room patrons of the upcoming event.
The promotion was a success, as Wynn poker room traffic increased significantly during the month of September, with amateur and professional poker players dedicating themselves to attaining the minimum goal of 50 hours of live play to qualify. Players simply scanned their Players Club cards over the 30-day period as they seated themselves at various ring games. Wynn poker room staff kept their players up to date after clocking out. Wynn followed that up by officially notifying Freeroll Poker Tournament qualifiers through direct mail responses.
The promotion was a success, as nearly 500 players made the cut and over 400 returned on Thursday and Friday to participate.
"We are very pleased with the turnout," said Wynn Freeroll Poker Tournament director David Eglgeder. "This is an excellent way to express our gratitude towards our players."
The event was so large it had to be housed in the ballroom area of the convention center, yet the massive dedicated 30-table space was still unable to satisfy demand, forcing the tournament to be divided into two separate flights over two days.
Flight 1 began at noon on Thursday with 25 players finishing close to the 7 p.m. starting time of flight 2. Flight 2 continued throughout the night. The remaining 50 players returned on Friday and drew for their seats. All were guaranteed a piece of the $100,000 prizepool.
The final table of the Wynn Freeroll Poker Tournament included Sonny Tran, Judy Na, Brick Verser, Joseph Petersen, Gary Blackman, Robert Morgan, Paul Russo, Tyrone Wilson, Leffert Peeters, and Al Ruck.
In the end it was Sonny Tran who took home $14,000 in first-prize money and the elegant Wynn Freeroll Championship trophy.
