Open-face chinese poker is spreading like wildfire around the poker tournament circuit, quickly becoming the diversion of choice for those not in events. For the uninitiated, poker author Jennifer Shahade wrote an introduction to the game for Card Player that details the basics of the game and how it swept through the poker community.
At the 2013 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure this unique game made its debut in a major tournament in a $2,150 buy-in tournament that drew 59 players and 18 re-entries from some of poker’s biggest names, like Daniel Negreanu, Jason Mercier, Eli Elezra, Shaun Deeb, Phil Hellmuth and many of the game’s notable supporters.
In the end, the champion of the first-ever major open-face chinese poker tournament was Peter Jetten. For the win the Canadian pro earned $52,280 and 168 Card Player Player of the Year points.
