Blue Square, the Rank Plc-owned online sports betting and poker brand which once sponsored the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour, may be closed.
It’s parent company said in a statement today that Blue Square remained loss-making and it was shifting its focus to its casino brands including Grosvenor and Mecca.
“The (Blue Square Bet) business operates solely in the digital channel of the highly competitive sports betting market where it continues to generate an operating loss,” it said.
This is despite a rise in revenue as a result of an advertising campaign which the company said would impact profitability.
Blue Square also provides sports betting for 888 and Rank is in the process of buying the Gala Casinos brand. The iPoker network site continues to bill itself as the “Home of Grosvenor UK Poker Tour.”
