After a drawing party held at Cleopatra’s Barge in Caesars Palace in Las Vegas Wednesday night, the field of 64 in the 2013 NBC National Heads Up Poker Championship now knows the path they must take. Each player must win at least two matches to make it into the money, and six matches for the title and the $750,000 first-place prize.
Some of the more interesting match ups in the first round are Phil Laak vs, Phil Ivey, Jennifer Tilly vs. Antonio Esfandiari, Ike Haxton vs. Justin Bonomo, Erik Seidel vs. Tom Dwan and Liv Boeree vs. Gaelle Baumann.
Two late alternates, David Sands and Tom Marchese, replaced Daniel Negreanu and Jennifer Harman, who both backed out of the tournament at the last minute. Negreanu, despite supporting the event at the draw party, cited a prior commitment as his reason for opting out in one of his video blogs.
The action is set to kick off Thursday afternoon. Card Player will be posting daily recaps of the event until its conclusion on Saturday. Stay tuned for more from the tournament.
