Svenska Spel, the Swedish state-run gaming operator, has suspended 14 online poker accounts it alleges were involved in a cheating ring at the site.

In a statement the company said the accounts violated the company’s rules and alleges they, “…used illegal means to thereby gain advantages in an improper manner.”

The matter has been reported to the police and the player accounts frozen pending further investigation both internally at Svenska Spel and by the law.

Lennart Source chief executive at Swedish Games, said, “We are looking very seriously at the incident. Swedish Spel’s business is based on great responsibility for our customers’ gaming habits and game security. I welcome the fact that the police take on the matter.”

A representative of the site confirmed a poker bot was used in the suspected fraud. “The computer program that is suspected [is] linked to our poker site and in real time [was] playing against other customers,” the source said [translated]. “These programs can rapidly calculate the probabilities and thus have an advantage against other customers, and of course it is not permitted under our gaming rules.”
