Report: MGM CEO Says Plan For New Casinos In New York State 'Tortured'Casino Developer Wants New York City To Be Open For Construction |
|
MGM Resorts International, one of the largest and most powerful casino developers on the planet, reportedly loathes what’s currently being discussed in New York with regards to gaming.
The company’s CEO Jim Murren told the Times Union that Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s current plan to restrict resort-style casino construction to upstate is “tortured.” Murren argued that a casino in New York City would be better for creating economic activity. Obviously MGM would also greatly profit if it was authorized in the metropolitan area and the firm received the OK to build.
No official decision has been made in the state on where the casinos would be built.
While New York is trying to figure things out, other states in the region are moving forward with their own initiatives. New Jersey just legalized online gambling and Pennsylvania will soon look at Internet games, while Massachusetts is inching closer to seeing new casinos.
MGM is bidding to build in Springfield, Massachusetts.
