Virginia Man Wins Poker Dome Seat Through NPPL

Sometimes playing in bars and pubs can take you places, as Jerry Schrader recently proved. The Woodbridge, Va., man won his way into the Mansion Poker Dome Challenge through freerolls spread by the National Pub Poker League.

Schrader already won $75,000 and will soon be playing for a chance at $1 million. The locksmith won the second round of the Poker Dome Challenge last weekend and added another $50,000 to his bank account.

Now Schrader will compete for the Poker Dome Challenge $1 million grand prize. Schrader, along with NPPL member Stan Poczatek, also of Woodbridge, Va., both played in the $50,000 qualifier tournaments, but only Schrader was able to defeat five other contestants to take home the prize.

Schrader started the journey to Las Vegas by winning a free NPPL tournament at East Coast Billiards, which qualified him for an NPPL exclusive freeroll tournament online at MansionPoker.net.

He defeated the other pub winners and thus earned free airfare, accommodations, limo, and a seat in the Poker Dome Challenge.

Schrader became short-stacked in the $50,000 tournament and developed a different style of play.

"Once I got short-stacked, my only strategy was to double up. I did it six times and here I am with a giant check for $50,000," said Schrader. He became the third qualifier out of five for the $1 million tournament.

Each week the NPPL hosts an online tournament specifically for its league members, with the prize being a MANSIONPoker.net Poker Dome Challenge seat.

Winners are flown to Las Vegas to compete in one of 36 televised qualifiers, played live at the MANSIONPoker.net Poker Dome and broadcasted by Fox Sports Network. The 36 winners will each collect a cash prize of $25,000 and a seat at one of six televised semifinals for $50,000.
