Google Glass To Be Banned From Vegas Casinos?

Rumors That New Technology Might Get Las Vegas Ban

Google’s latest product — “Google Glass” — might not be welcome in Las Vegas casinos, according to reporting from NBC. The eye wear has the capability to take photos and video.

“Picture-taking is frowned upon, and security officers on duty ask individuals not to take pictures for the privacy of others in the casino,” MGM Resorts International told NBC. “This new product is nothing new in terms of a challenge for us, because for so many years, the very tiniest of portable lipstick and pinpoint cameras have been around.”

It seems likely that Google Glass would create some issue for poker events and might not be allowed at the table in those either. Obviously if somehow there was a Las Vegas-wide ban on them it would streamline a prohibition. Anyways, it’s common for poker tournament staff to enforce technology restrictions when an event reaches its more advanced stages.

Google Glass is still in testing. A release date for consumers is expected in late 2013.

The Las Vegas Sun ran a small piece Wednesday about it being “prospectively banned.” Only time will tell on what happens with the new eye wear that has created a lot of buzz and a little bit of controversy so far. Google is one of the richest companies in the world.
