Man Who Claims He Broke His Leg At Revel Can't Sue Right Now Because Casino Is BankruptU.K. Tourist Has To Wait Until Future Date To Consider Action |

A tourist from the United Kingdom reportedly fell on a Revel escalator in August and failed in his quest to sue for his alleged injury thanks to the casino’s bankruptcy.
According to reporting from The Star-Ledger, Chris Eades claims the incident began with his clothes getting caught in the escalator, before other patrons eventually rushed to his rescue. He said he realized the following day when at a hospital in New York City that he had a broken leg, an injury that he thinks resulted from the casino’s negligence.
The judge looking over the complaint reportedly said in April that Eades couldn’t sue Revel because it was in federal bankruptcy court, but he could do so at a later date.
Regardless of whether Eades story is true or bogus, the legal system made it clear which group is more important — the general public or business interests. Gambling revenue for Atlantic City properties, on a whole, has been slumping since 2006.
A paragraph from The Star-Ledger puts it another way:
Bankruptcy, especially Chapter 11, is meant to give a business “a little running room to get back on their feet,” [Eades’ lawyer] said. There’s a long list of creditors and contractors that want to collect from Revel, and someone bringing a personal injury lawsuit is at the back of the line.
