With a 121 entrants and 37 re-buys, the 2013 European Poker Tour Grand Final €25,000 no-limit hold’em high roller built a prize pool of €3,871,000 ($ 5,075,856 USD). The last player standing was American poker pro Steven Silverman, who earned €775,400 and 924 Card Player Player of the Year points for the win. Known as “Zugwat” online, the Maryland native has plenty of experience playing for high stakes. With two prior final-table finishes and this win under his belt, Silverman now sits in 31st place in the overall POY standings.
Silverman entered the final day of play in third chip position, with Vanessa Selbst sitting behind the largest stack. Selbst was eventually eliminated in fourth place, earning $380,656 and 462 POY points. Selbst won the $25,000 high roller event at this year’s PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, and as a result of these two scores is now sitting in 17th place in the POY race.
With Selbst’s elimination, the final three of Anthony Gregg, Fadi Kamar and Silverman eventually made a deal that guaranteed each €760,000 and left just over €15,000 and the title to play for. Kamar bowed out in third, leaving Gregg and Silverman to battle for the title. Silverman began heads-up play with a roughly 5-to-3 chip advantage, which he quickly extended to nearly 3-to-1 before the final hand arose.
Gregg raised to 100,000 from the button and Silverman three-bet to 375,000. Gregg moved all in and Silverman called with the AJ, finding himself in a race against Gregg’s 22. The board ran out 653JJ, securing the pot and the title for Silverman.
