But in the end, it was 27-year-old poker pro Mike Gorodinsky who topped the field of 374 on his way to a gold bracelet and the $216,988 first-place prize.
Originally born in Russia, Gorodinsky now resides in San Diego, California and has been playing poker for more than five years. After making it to heads-up play, Gorodinsky battled back from an 8-1 deficit to regain the chip lead and eventually the title.
“I had a pretty good read on how my opponent was playing, so I just needed some momentum to swing my way,” said Gorodinsky.
Julie Schneider was also at the final table, finishing in eighth place. Her husband, Tom Schneider, won the same event at the 2007 WSOP.
