Angela Jordison scored the win at the Major Series of Poker Tour stop in Larchwood, Iowa on March 23. Jordison added her second MSPT title to go with the one she won back in September 2024 at Ameristar Casino Hotel East Chicago, before the tour’s recent renaming from its longtime Mid-States Poker Tour branding. This second win, which she scored on tour at Grand Falls Casino, was good for a payday worth $95,381 to take her career earnings above $1.7 million.

MSPT reporters on the scene caught up with her after win for an interview. “I was short and card dead. I lost a big hand right before the final table against T.J. [Murphy] in a blind vs. blind. I had ace-eight with the nut draw while he had ace-nine with a pair, and I bricked out to be [one of] the short stack[s] at the final.”

She continued: “To come in short, it’s really something I’ve been working so much on lately, the ICM chops and these short-stack situations really came into play here, and it really helped me out. All that prep that I do off the felt, the stuff that seems to be really boring or worthless, really came in clutch here.”

To finish the interview Jordison offered these thoughts on the victory. “It feels really good … really, really good … really great; I was pretty disappointed after seeing the Hall of Fame changes. It was something I was gunning for, and then felt like it was almost unattainable – like great now I’m never going to get it. It also took a lot of pressure off of me because I was really pushing to get it this year, but after seeing the new requirements I just got to play and have fun," said Jordison about clearing the new MSPT hall of fame requirements that state you need at least two tournament victories.

The $1,110 buy-in no-limit hold’em event attracted a field of 513 entries over two starting flights to set the total prize pool at $496,110 to more than double the $200,000 guarantee. The final 55 players all secured a min-cash worth $2,199, and that’s how many players returned for the final day of play for a long march down to the final table.

As she mentioned in the interview above, Jordison was low in chips when the final table began. Murphy was at the top of the stacks at that time, and he kept things rolling by taking out Paul Cross in ninth place. D.J. Buckley was out next in eighth place, and Jordison scored a much-needed double before Jason Peterson busted in seventh.

Jordison then got on the board by taking out Jason Sell in sixth place to keep growing her stack, and she kept things moving in the right direction by busting Kevin Berthelsen in fifth place as well. Murphy kept running his stack up as well when he eliminated Steve Funderman in fourth place.

The battle for third place ended with Aaron Knudson taking his leave to set up the final match between Jordison and Murphy. Jordison had chipped her way up to the advantage, but things were close between them with an 8:7 ratio in her advantage. That’s when the ICM chop transpired between the final two players standing. The final hand didn’t take too long to transpire after that decision.

The money got in with a flop reading QDiamond SuitJClub Suit9Heart Suit when Jordison check-raised to 675,000 after a continuation bet of 225,000 from Murphy. The turn then fell 2Club Suit, Jordison bet 1,300,000 and Murphy came along to the 2Heart Suit on the river. Jordison moved all-in and Murphy called off his remaining chips with JDiamond Suit6Club Suit for jacks and deuces, but it was second best to Jordison’s 10Diamond Suit8Club Suit for a flopped straight. Murphy took home $76,736, the biggest cash of his career by far.
