There were 558 entrants that put up the $1,500 buy-in for event no. 39, the stud eight-or-better tournament at the 2013 World Series of Poker, creating a total prize pool of $753,300.
Incredibly, it was Canada’s own Daniel Idema who emerged as the victor, claiming the country’s record ninth WSOP bracelet of the summer and the $184,590 first-place prize. It was the 28-year-old former hockey player’s second WSOP win.
The Vancouver native commented on Canada’s good showing at this year’s series after his win.
“Everything is just going our way,” Idema said. “It’s pretty fortunate. I’m happy that all my friends are dominating here.”
