The Venetian Deep Stack Extravaganza is known for great tournament structures, long blind levels and of course, big starting stacks. The $5,000 main event, part of the Card Player Poker Tour, is no exception, but the players haven’t gotten the message.
Despite maintaining a 100 big blind average for most of day 2, the field managed to whittle itself down from 118 players to just 39. During one of the 90-minute levels, the field lost an incredible 24 players. That’s a player every 3.75 minutes.
The remaining players will return to the Palazzo tournament room on Tuesday to battle down to the nine-handed final table. Along the way, they’ll burst the money bubble. The final 27 players will make a guaranteed $13,473, but all will have their eyes set on the $293, 966 first-place prize.
Leading the way is Mikolaj Zawadzki, who is enjoying a healthy buffer between himself and the field. Other notables remaining include Jonathan Little, Dan O’Brien, Joseph Cheong, Cory Carroll, Joe Kuether, Connor Drinan, Govert Metaal, Ben Palmer and Card Player’s own Allyn Jaffrey Shulman.
