Authorities in Pennsylvania have busted a man who was allegedly involved with a small-scale sports betting ring.
He was allegedly trying to collect debts inside a casino, of all places.
The 32-year-old is accussed of using a website and then trying to collect at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs, a racino located in Pennsylvania, according to reporting from Citizensvoice.com. The poker room at the casino was reportedly used as a meeting area.
The website is www.wager2020.com, which is based out of San Jose, Costa Rica.
“Wager2020 neither accepts payments from players nor does it make payments to players,” a disclaimer on the site reads. “If you make a deposit into your account, it is on behalf of your sports book.”
Authorities said that the accused got a 50-percent cut for every $5 lost.
A preliminary hearing has been set for Oct. 10.
Mohegan Sun acquired the Pocono Downs racetrack in 2005 for $280 million. The previous owner was Penn National Gaming. Mohegan Sun renamed the property Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs, which eventually underwent a big expansion. It was once a slots-only gambling facility, before getting table games, thanks to a new state law, in July 2010.
