August 2013 was a good month for casinos statewide in Nevada, but especially for the massive casino-resorts on the Strip.
Gaming revenues rose 19.98 percent for Strip casinos when compared to the same month last year. The money won from gamblers rocketed from $490,941,203 in August 2012 to $589,021,971 in August 2013. That percentage increase was the largest experienced anywhere in the Silver State.
Overall, Nevada’s nonrestricted gaming licensees reported a total gaming win of $955,281,446 for the month of August 2013. This amounted to an 11.17-percent increase year-over-year when licensees reported a gaming win of $859,261,683.
The win was nice, but the recovery has been slow and steady. For the fiscal year (July 1, 2013 through August 31, 2013), gaming win has increased a tiny 0.85 percent.
August was an important performance for the state, as Nevada casinos saw a 7.97-percent year-over-year decrease in gaming revenue during the month of July.
The best month so far this year has been February, when Nevada casinos won $1,073,255,958 from gamblers. That amounted to a 15.13-percent increase compared to February 2012, when licensees reported gaming win of $932,175,507. The $1.073 billion was tops in quite awhile.
Nevada reported gaming revenue of $10.8 billion in 2012. For comparison, Macau, where some of the same firms do business, took in $38 billion from gamblers last year.
