A total of 187 players posted the €7,500 buy-in in the 2013 World Poker Tour Grand Prix de Paris no-limit hold’em main event, building a prize pool of €1,332,375 ($1,839,344 USD). After four days of play the final table of six was set, with Belarusian Vasili Firsau the strong favorite to win with 3 million of the 5.5 million chips in play. That narrative was still on track when Firsau dispatched all of the sixth through third place players including Christina Lindley (5th -€82,280) and Elliot Smith (4th – €109,615), making it to heads-up play with a roughly 7-to-1 chip lead over Mohsin Charania.
The American poker professional was not ready to concede the win, however, doubling up with a wheel made from the Q4 which he got his last 12 big-blinds in preflop against the A6 of Firsau. From there the momentum was firmly in Charania’s corner and soon he found himself with a chip lead. On the final hand Charania raised to 165,000 from the button and Firsau moved all-in. Charania quickly called with the 1010, which was flipping against the AQ of Firsau. The board ran out 77382 and Charania’s tens held to secure him the pot and the title.
For the win Charania earned €328,750 ($469,477 USD), his first WPT title and 672 Card Player Player of the Year points. This cash brought his lifetime live tournament earnings to $3,155,501.
