Second Annual Poker Tournament Benefits WNCCPoker Fund Raiser at Reno Peppermill Raises Funds for Nevada College Baseball |

Peppermill Hotel Casino in Reno, Nevada, recently held its second annual fund-raising poker tournament for Western Nevada's Community College baseball team.
First prize went to Ken Bartlett of Bartlett Architecture in Reno, who took home a $4,000 one-year membership package donated by Red Hawk Gold Course, along with $1,000 in prize money.
WNCC coach D.J. Whittemore credits active community member Dennis Banks and local volunteers for organizing the no-limit Texas hold'em poker tournament. The funds will defray the college baseball team's 2007 travel expenses, allowing it the opportunity to compete against other top nationals during its nonconference season.
The Wildcats will kick off the 2007 season in Henderson, Nevada, with a Jan. 26 doubleheader against Arizona's Coshise and Yavapai Community Colleges.
This was the second annual poker tournament to benefit the WNCC baseball program, and this year's fund-raiser brought in $21,450. It will be added to the remainder of the $15,000 raised in 2005.
