Cards are in the air at one of the most anticipated stops on Season II of the Card Player Poker Tour. At 12 pm EST Dec. 5, players began the first of nine tournaments, a $345 no-limit hold’em $100,000 guarantee, for the final stop of the CPPT for 2013 at Palm Beach Kennel Club in West Palm Beach, Florida.

About two hours into the event, over 170 players were already seated for event no. 1, putting the tournament on track to smash the $100,000 guarantee.

“We are very pleased with the turnout, we are at 170 already and that is not including re-entry,” said Tournament Director Wil Herrera. “We are very pleased, especially with other events going in the market right now.”

With tournaments including a $135 H.O.R.S.E, a $125 no-limit hold’em turbo and a $30 no-limit hold’em with $20 re-buys and a $10,000 guarantee there is something for every player throughout the CPPT series.

The action will wrap up with a $125 no-limit hold’em with bounties tournament Dec. 15, but the focal point of the series will be the $1,120 no-limit hold’em $250,000 guarantee main event, featuring live updates and a live stream of the final table.

Satellites for the main event will run throughout the series and will feature buy-ins ranging from $65 to $220.

In addition to the CPPT tournaments, regular nightly no-limit hold’em tournaments and cash games will also run throughout the duration of the tour stop.

Palm Beach Kennel Club will also offer multiple perks for players during the CPPT. The most sought after coming in the form of a Player of the Series leaderboard. The top ten players will split $26,000 upon the completion of the final tournament with $10,000 going to the first-place finisher.

“We like bringing in fresh ideas to our local market and to our players,” Herrera said. “We are doing the Player of the Series, and that is something we do here on a monthly basis for a Player of the Month. The players love it and we are always trying to do new and exciting things for our tournament players.”

Points will be awarded based on an algorithm that factors in buy-in and field size for all players who play in any of the nine CPPT tournaments and satellites. The second-place finisher will receive $5,000, $3,000 will go to the third-place finisher, and the fourth-place player will take home $2,000. The fifth through tenth-place players will each receive $1,000.

One percent of the total prize pool from each tournament will be held as a contribution to the Player of the Series purse. All players will receive points just for playing in an event and players who finish in the top 10 percent of the field will receive additional points based on final position.

Players can also participate in the 23 Days of Christmas promotion. From the hours of 10 am to 1 am the player holding the highest hand among all cash games tables will win a prize every half hour. From 1 am to 3 am one prize will be awarded, making 31 prizes each day in total.

Prizes include Samsung LED Smart TVs, Apple Mini G4s, Macbook Pros, Beats headphones, Bose speakers and more. Players can also win gift cards worth $100 and $200.

Palm Beach Kennel ClubThe promotion will continue beyond the conclusion of the CPPT and end Dec. 23.

The 64-table card room is the only licensed card room in West Palm Beach and is also home to live greyhound racing, simulcast horse racing and jai alai and fine dining.
