New Jersey online gambling is little over a week old and already around 55,000 accounts have been created on state-licensed sites, according to reports.

The figure doesn’t represent the number of unique players, as many are presumed to have registered for accounts on multiple sites.

New Jersey began online gambling on Nov. 26, around seven months after the state of Nevada began its online poker industry. According to the numbers, it seems New Jersey has overtaken the Silver State in some respects.

The following data from PokerScout.com can shed some light on a comparison.

WSOP.com has had a seven-day cash game average of 140 for New Jersey, while 110 for Nevada. Ultimate Poker has had a seven-day average of 20 for New Jersey and 85 for Nevada.

Those two sites are the only ones offering games in both states.

At the moment, the top poker room sanctioned by a U.S. state is New Jersey’s Party Borgata with a 180-player average. The AAPN and Betfair are in the back of the pack.

New Jersey has a population of around 8.87 million. Nevada has 2.76 million.

It’s worth emphasizing that those player figures don’t include tournaments.

Around half of gambling operators in New Jersey have began online gambling.

Nevada will eventually offer other casino games on the web.

In addition to the two aforementioned states, Delaware began full online gambling in late October. It’s unclear how many accounts have been created on the two sites operating there.
