A new gambling movie based on the book “Gambling Man” is set to be made and Robert De Niro is reportedly being courted for potentially playing the lead role.
Just before Christmas last week, Borsalino Films acquired the rights to Gambling Man, a memoir by a casino boss with the name Gary Green. The book is apparently a colorful depiction of the gambling business.
The studio claims the story is unique because of its first-person narrative.
“De Niro is certainly the most recognized of the actors we are eyeing for the lead in this landmark investment; but there are several in contention and we have not even begun official talks,” Lu Nay, of Puji Capital, one of the Shanghai China groups funding the Borsalino project, said in a statement released this past weekend.
The film — if made and starring the two-time academy award winner — wouldn’t be the first time De Niro has played a casino boss. In 1995, De Niro’s film “Casino” hit theaters. It is widely regarded as one of the best films ever made.
De Niro is 70 years of age.
