Jerry WillisJerry Willis picked up some additional holiday spending money at the conclusion of the Card Player Poker Tour Palm Beach Kennel Club in December when he took down the Player of the Series leaderboard challenge for $10,000, adding to the $26,723 he in tournaments throughout the series.

Willis began the nine-tournament Palm Beach Kennel Club CPPT with a bang when he took down event 1: $345 no-limit hold’em $100,000 guarantee for $26,463. Willis then finished ninth in the $150 no-limit hold’em turbo for $260. Two final tables and a win in the largest event outside the $1,100 no-limit hold’em $250,000 guarantee main event was enough to secure the $10,000 bonus prize for Willis.

The Player of the Series leaderboard was calculated using points based on an algorithm that factored in field-size and buy-in for all players who participated in any of the nine CPPT tournaments. The winner received $10,000 while the second and third place finishers were awarded $5,000 and $3,000 respectively. The fourth place finisher received $2,000 and the fifth through tenth place finishers walked away with $1,000.

John McNulty jumped into the second place spot to add an additional $5,000 to his $70,709 from the CPPT stop. McNulty looked poised to take home some piece of the leaderboard money after finishing 18th in event no. 1 and fourth in the $125 no-limit hold’em, but it was his main event win that catapulted him to the second spot as the series wrapped up. McNulty became the latest CPPT champion when he won the $1,100 no-limit hold’em $250,000 guarantee main event for $68,191, his largest live tournament cash to date.

Tyler Denson, who won event 2: $30 no-limit hold’em with $20 re-buys $10,000 guarantee initially took an early lead in the learderboard standings, however he finished in the third spot with two cashes. Denson finished third in event no. 1.

Palm Beach Kennel Club typically runs a Player of the Month leadearboard, which has found popularity among the area’s regular players. Extending the idea to the CPPT was a natural progression.

“We like bringing new and fresh ideas to our local market and to our players,” said Poker Room Director Noah Carbone. “We run the Player of the Month on a monthly basis and the players love it. We always try to do new and exciting things for our tournament players.”

The Player of the Month leaderboard came in handy for several players in the main event. Gerard Donaghy was among the top 100 players of the month from of November and was rewarded with a seat into a freeroll tournament where prizes included seats in the CPPT main event. Donaghy rode that promotion all the way to a ninth place main event final table finish, good for a $6,256 payday.
