2006 UBOC Event No. 3 Final Table

The UltimateBet Online Championships (UBOC) continued to shine last night as the third event, a no-limit hold'em tournament, rose above its guarantee to offer $268,200 in prizes for participants. A total of 1,341 players entered the event in an attempt to cash in one of the 140 paying places. The winner of the event could look forward to a $56,724 payday and a silver UBOC bracelet.

Two big-time Internet pros made it to the event's final table, making an already impressive event even more remarkable. Pro Kevin "BeL0WaB0Ve" Saul came to the final table as the chip leader with $718,000 while fellow pro Nick "gbmantis" Niergarth sat as a mid-stack with $324,000. Rdcrsn was the short stack at the table with $146,000, but he wasn't trailing by much.

A hand just six hands into the final table action would set the tone for the rest of the tournament. Adanthar1 ($159,000) was all in preflop against BeL0WaB0Ve. Adanthar1 showed pocket jacks while BeL0WaB0Ve turned over bad news with pocket kings. In most circumstances, a king on the flop would be great news for BeL0WaB0Ve, but not when it was accompanied by two jacks, as in this hand. Adanthar1 now had quad jacks and BeL0WaB0Ve failed to snag his one-outer to eliminate Adanthar1.

With that chunk taken out of BeL0WaB0Ve, blur5f6 was poised to take over the chip lead with the first elimination hand. In a three-way pot with a board reading Kdiamond 8club 6spade 10diamond after a checked flop, ibite123 made a larger-than-pot-sized bet with $144,000 and blur5f6 pushed all in for $327,000. The third player, rdcrsn, folded and ibite123 called all in for $216,000 total. Ibite123 showed pocket eights for a flopped set and blur5f6 turned up pocket kings for a better flopped set, both having set traps for each other by checking the flop. The river was a blank and ibite123 was eliminated in tenth ($2,682), putting blur5f6 into the chip lead.

Razor483 had been nursing a short stack for some time before finally pushing all in preflop. MakiSupa called and showed pocket jacks while razor483 flipped up Aclub Kclub for a coin-flip situation. Razor483 spiked a king on the flop to turn the tables on MakiSupa. MakiSupa turned the hand back around at the last possible moment when one of the last two jacks came on the river to give him a set. Razor483 was sent packing in ninth with $4,559.

With eight players left, gbmantis decided to make an aggressive move preflop that would ultimately leave him crippled. Adanthar1 raised to $60,000 preflop from mid-position with the big blind at $20,000. The action was folded to gbmantis in the small blind and he pushed all in for $287,000. Sideout31 called all in from the big blind with $211,000 and Adanthar1 folded. Sideout31 showed pocket aces and gbmantis flipped up 10heart 2spade and was well behind. Sideout31 snagged another ace on the turn and gbmantis failed to improve his hand at all and was left crippled with $76,000.

Gbmantis would be sent to the rail nine hands later, despite having doubled up once in the interim. He pushed all in preflop and sideout31 called and showed Adiamond 10diamond. Gbmantis had a small lead with pocket sixes before the flop came Kclub Jdiamond 10club, giving sideout31 a pair of tens. The tens would be enough to oust gbmantis in eighth ($6,035).

Cdbr3799 was the next to go when he got all of his chips in preflop with 10club 9diamond against blur5f6 with Aheart 2diamond. Blur5f6 turned an unneeded wheel to eliminate cdbr3799 and send him home in seventh with $8,582.

Sideout31 saw his stack get slowly whittled away until finally, despite having sat in the chip lead at one point during the final six, he would be the table's next victim. Sideout31 raised to $75,000 preflop with the big blind at $24,000 and MakiSupa pushed all in for $795,000. Sideout31 called all in for $308,000 total and showed Aspade 9heart. MakiSupa flipped up pocket queens for the lead. The queens held up as sideout31's hand failed to improve and he was eliminated in sixth ($11,264).

BeL0WaB0Ve had been seeing some rough times over this final table, mainly at the hands of Adanthar1, who had drawn out on him in at least one other big hand aside from the quad jacks. BeL0WaB0Ve's stack had been a pendulum, swinging into and out of the chip lead. When he was down to $309,000, BeL0WaB0Ve finally took his last stand. BeL0WaB0Ve called all in preflop against a huge raise from blur5f6 and showed Aspade Kdiamond. Blur5f6 turned over Qdiamond 9heart and would need to improve. The flop came 8spade 4spade 3heart, keeping BeL0WaB0Ve in the lead. The turn was the 10club and the river spiked a 9 for blur5f6 to take over the lead and bust BeL0WaB0Ve in fifth. BeL0WaB0Ve cashed in $14,081 for his finish in the event.

Rdcrsn entered the final table as the short stack but had managed to sneak by with a modest stack until it was down to four players. Rdcrsn went all in preflop for $159,000 and blur5f6 called and showed Aspade 10club. Rdcrsn revealed Kclub 9heart and was behind. Neither player paired any cards and blur5f6's ace was enough to eliminate rdcrsn in fourth ($17,433).

All three players remaining were virtually tied, each holding close to $1.1 million. MakiSupa siphoned off some chips from Adanthar1 over the next 10 minutes to put him into the lead with $1.8 million, while Adanthar1 was left with just over 10 times the big blind at $407,000. A big hand drastically changed the dynamics of the final three.

MakiSupa raised to $100,000 preflop and blur5f6 reraised to $290,000. MakiSupa pushed all in for $1.8 million and blur5f6 called all in with $1.2 million and showed pocket queens. MakiSupa was well behind with pocket fours. The board bricked out until blur5f6 got an unnecessary queen on the river to double up and take a huge chunk out of MakiSupa. Blur5f6 finished MakiSupa off three hands later. MakiSupa called all in against a preflop raise from blur5f6 and showed pocket queens. Blur5f6 flipped up Adiamond 7spade and was behind. The flop spiked an ace for blur5f6 and the river was a 7 to give him two pair, enough to put MakiSupa out in third with $23,468.

Blur5f6 had a huge chip lead going into heads-up play, sitting with $2.9 million versus Adanthar1's $407,000. Adanthar1 put up a good fight by doubling up, but it wouldn't be enough as the final hand came 11 hands into the match. Adanthar1 raised to $140,000 preflop and blur5f6 reraised up to $1.85 million. Adanthar1 called all in for $764,000 and showed Aheart 7spade. Blur5f6 turned over Kclub 8diamond and was behind going to the flop. The flop came Kdiamond Qdiamond 10diamond to give blur5f6 a pair and the lead. Adanthar1 needed a non-diamond ace or jack to stay alive. The 2heart came on the turn and the Kspade on the river, and Adanthar1 became the runner up for a $33,632 payday. Blur5f6 made $56,724 for his win and snagged the silver UBOC bracelet.

The final standings were:

1) blur5f6 - $56,724.30
2) Adanthar1 - $33,632.28
3) MakiSupa - $23,467.50
4) rdcrsn - $17,433
5) BeL0WaB0Ve - $14,080.50
6) sideout31 - $11,264.40
7) cdbr3799 - $8,582.40
8) gbmantis - $6,034.50
9) razor483 - $4,559.40
10) ibite123 - $2,682
