A remodeled and re-branded Sahara casino will re-open on Labor Day.
The unveiling of the casino, which will be called SLS Hotel and Casino, marks the end of a longer than three-year period of the property being shuttered.
“It’s been an incredible journey these past few years and I’m proud and humbled by some big news — SLS Las Vegas is officially opening Labor Day Weekend 2014. Looking forward to toasting The Strip’s next chapter with you! We are ‘back’ indeed!” said the CEO of one of the firm’s that owns the revamped property.
The casino will have more than 1,600 hotel rooms, 30,000 square feet of convention space and 80,000 square feet of casino gaming space. There will be 80 table games and 800 slots, the latter of which are the main moneymaker in the Silver State. Around 60 percent of gaming revenue comes from coin-operated devices, also known as slots.
A total of $415 million was spent on the renovation, according to the Las Vegas-Review Journal.
The casino is also being led by a former Wynn Resorts executive.
The firms that acquired the once financially troubled property are Los Angeles-based SBE Entertainment and San Francisco-based Stockbridge Capital Group.
The Sahara was in operation from 1952 to 2011.
