A man in Tasmania — an island state, part of the Commonwealth of Australia — has avoided a conviction for organizing a home poker game with no rake, according to a report. He was let off with basically a warning.

He used Facebook to organize it.

David Desmond Bowen invited 25 people to a poker game in October. The buy-in for the tournament was small, just $150. However, somehow police were alerted about it.

Bowen pleaded guilty to the crime he was charged with, which was illegal gambling.

His case reportedly is a rarity in Tasmania.

“No, it’s not a case that we’ve dealt with or have come to our office very often and I think this case will educate the community a little about what the law is with respect to gaming,” a legal expert with knowledge of the case told ABC News.
