German pro Ole Schemion has won the European Poker Tour Sanremo €10,300 no-limit hold’em high roller, topping a field of 105 entries to win €265,000 and his tenth career title. The 21-year-old has amassed more than $4.6 million in tournament earnings in recent years playing on the European circuit.
“I’m obviously very happy to win the Sanremo High Roller. It was a very tough field, and a tough final table as well," Schemion told PokerStars reporters. “It was a great tournament and a nice experience to win it.”
Schemion topped a star-studded final table including the likes of Canadian Pro Griffin Benger (6th – $83,863 USD), in-form Italian pro Mustapha Kanit (5th – $107,350 ) and heads-up opponent Max Greenwood (2nd – $251,589).
In addition to the plentiful prize money there were also plenty of Card Player Player of the Year points awarded in this event, with Schemion taking home 600 for the win and climbing to 33rd place in the overall POY standings as a result. For his fifth-place finish Mustapha Kanit earned 250 points. This was his fifth final table finish of 2014, bringing his year-to-date earnings to $908,354. As a result Kanit now sits in third place in the rankings with 2,884 points.
