In 2007, Alex Bolotin narrowly missed out on a World Series of Poker bracelet, finishing runner-up to Bill Edler in a six-handed no-limit hold’em event.

The New York-resident made a couple final tables in 2008, but it wasn’t until Sunday night at the Rio that Bolotin got another shot at a title. He wound up making the most of it.

Bolotin was one of 948 players who entered the $1,500 no-limit hold’em shootout event with the goal of winning what essentially amounted to three consecutive sit-n-gos. A total of 12 players made the final day, including notables such as Jared Jaffee (12th), Shawn Busse (8th), Josh Arieh (4th), Jon Lane (3rd) and Dimitar Danchev (2nd), but it was Bolotin who came out on top, picking up his first career bracelet and the $259,211 first-place prize.

The 33-year-old poker pro won more money for his finish in 2007, but was much happier with his latest result.

“I won double the money for second place and I was throwing my glasses against the wall,” he said. “It wasn’t a happy day. Finishing second hurts. This feels much, much better. It feels euphoric, actually. So many close calls and that’s what we come here for every summer. To win the gold. It is kind of a stamp on a long career, it feels sweet.”

Here is a look at the final table results.
